A hypochondriac’s nightmare

Caution: all statements in this post could be extremely exaggerated!

Before I started my “health journey” I really needed a kick in the backside, and I got it in form of a terrible sickness. OK, ok (first exaggeration) I got quite bad food poisoning – but it was terrible! I was at work (thankfully in our small satellite office and nobody was in that day) when I started to feel unwell. I will spare you the gory details, suffice it to say I had to call an ambulance (for the first time in my life) and was taken to hospital. Obviously, my blood work was not great, and I had to stay pretty much the whole night in a ward full of drunks (it was a Friday night).

I have not told you the worst things yet:

Firstly, it was also the one day in the year that Max was away on a business trip! I felt very sorry for myself – picture to prove.

Secondly, while I was being released and getting dressed I started looking around for my shoes – guess what? The medics had left them in the ambulance car! No doubt because I was in such a state they had to wheel me into the hospital at lightning speed to get me looked at by a doctor – or they just forgot. Anyway, now the really funny thing happened: they could not find anything for me to actually put on my feet apart from these bright red socks – I knew you would not believe me so I actually have a pic of that too! So, I walked out of the hospital on the street and into a cab wearing these!

On a more serious note – I really was in a bad state and something needed to change. I immediately became vegetarian for one. I was done with meat!

After Max had nursed me from my little health-scare we discussed going vegan. Admittedly he had mentioned it a couple of times before, but I never thought we would actually do it. My first thought was always “how can I live without cheese?”. However, I after my health scare and surviving this terrible sickness (yes, this is the second exaggeration 😊) I was open to this approach to get myself (and Max) into a healthier lifestyle.
