The small climbs (and big achievements)

I thought my first post about a proper bike ride (on road bike) should be about climbing a mountain, because I feel like I have come quite far in a short span of time (and I still have a long way to go!).

The first Box Hill ride was not only my furthest ride so far, but also my second highest climb in a single ride – not very impressive, right? – but 2017 is literally the first time I ever sat on a road bike (so please consider that when you judge me 🙂 )! Silly me: I also forgot to charge my Garmin, so you cannot even see my first Box Hill ride in its full glory. Thankfully I was not so forgetful on my second ride.

Here is Max and me at the top on our second ride.

I was pretty slow on my first attempt. Not knowing how far I still had to go I tried to preserve my energy. On my second try I improved my time on some segments by 3 min!

I know I still have a long way to go to become a good cyclist, but you should celebrate your achievements – that’s why after the second ride Max and I went to a vegan cafe in Richmond and had amazing food! We had a brown rice bowl with glazed mushrooms, sweet potatoes and a salad – it could have been better if it was warmed up (obviously not the salad) but it was delicious all the same!
